Cross Roads

Ah, Summer. Three glorious months of freedom, well, for most. However, I for one am beyond ready to head back to college. Working two Summer jobs and trying to make time for everything and everyone has definitely taken it's toll on me, and while I hope you can't see the bags under my eyes through my MAC studio fix concealer, they certainly are there. Generally I look beyond drained on a daily basis, and so in light of that, I recently decided to treat myself. After all, I am a firm believer that when you look good, you feel good, and finally I feel like I am doing both.

While I usually have a lot to say, and even more to offer my opinion on, lately I feel like I'm at a crossroad, and I don't quite know which direction I should go in. Don't get me wrong, I feel like I've learnt so much this Summer, and I have grown so much as a person, but something in me feels like I'm at a standstill. When I'm not working, I'm trying to squeeze the most out of every single minute I've got, and when I'm not doing that, well, I'm just completely and utterly drained.

I know what you're thinking; that's just life. We work, we sleep, we eat, we try to do what makes us happy, and what makes everyone else happy too. But the reality is, we can't be everything to everyone, and we can't spend all our days stuck in the same old boring routine. Life is too short to be anything but yourself, but there is not enough time to do all the things you want, or even need to do. That seems very contradictory, but this Summer I've really learnt how to make the most of every hour that I'm not working, and every cent I earn.

Ever since I broke my phone four months ago my absence from social media has really allowed me to grow as a person and get more from everyday. I'm done with looking at everyone's Snapchat stories, and watching my Instagram likes. Life is too short for you to worry about what other people are doing, who's following or unfollowing you and how many likes you can get on a profile picture. Life is not a competition or a popularity contest. Just be you, wholly and fully, and don't worry about what anyone else is thinking, saying or doing.

We are all guilty of spending a little too much time inside. Each day take it upon yourself to go outside. Embrace the elements, embrace life. Take time to smell the roses. I was fortunate enough that one of my jobs this Summer involved working outside everyday, but now that that has wound up, I find that I have to make a more conscious effort to go outside and seize the day and each of the opportunities it presents. Go to the beach, go swimming, go walking or running. Just find your escape

Travelling and exploring on a student budget is never easy. If, like me, you're stuck at home all Summer, try to take time out to explore where you live. Find new hidden gems and secret spots. Let yourself wander. Break rules. Find freedom in where you live.
