8 Things I've Learnt in 2016

2016 is finally coming to an end, and while it's so exciting to look forward to a New Year full of new adventures, new challenges, new obstacles and new people, I love looking back on all the things I experienced in 2016. For me, 2016 was a year of learning, growing and changing. If someone had told me all the obstacles I would have had to overcome in 2016  this time last year, I'm sure I never would have believed them.. But that's the thing about time, it changes you, and it strengthens you in ways that you could never imagine, if you let it. I've learnt so much in the past year, so today I'm sharing 8 things that 2016 has taught me

1. Be Confident

I've learnt a lot over the past year about what it means to be confident. There are so many people in this world that will tell you what you can't do, or make you feel like you're not good enough, but in the end of the day, you are the only person that can define who you are. Sometimes it takes strength to be confident and self-assured, so I guess in the past year I have learnt how to be strong. Life has hardened me in the best way it could

2. Don't Be So Hard on Yourself

Jess Glynne's song "Don't Be So Hard on Yourself" really resonated with me this year. Cheesy, I know, but I am always guilty of being too hard on myself, pushing myself too far or overworking myself, just to make sure that everything is perfect. The truth is that life is not perfect. Everything doesn't have to be perfect, and when it's not, that's okay too. Sometimes life's imperfections is what really makes it perfect

3. People Change

For better or for worse. Everyone changes, and that's just life. It's okay to change, and to grow. Mistakes don't define who you are, or who you will be. What does define you is how you deal with your mistakes. Will they make you, or will they break you? We can't expect everyone to change in the same way that we will, and that's okay too

4. Forgive

Sometimes we can all be guilty of spending too much time holding grudges. Forgiveness is one of the few things that allows you to move forward in life. Just because you forgive does not mean that you have to forget. It doesn't mean that everything will rewind to how it used to be, but it does acknowledge that you have finished one of life's chapters, and you are ready to begin another, in whatever way you want

5. Take time for you

Take time to explore, to laugh, to love and to live. Life is too short to live everyday for somebody else. Do more of what makes you happy, spend time with people that make you happy and take time off when you need it. We all need a break sometime

6. Don't be so afraid

We shouldn't always waste time being afraid of what the future holds. Change can be scary, but it can be exciting too, if you let it. We all get scared sometimes, but this year I've learnt that it's so important not to let fear or nerves get in the way of how you experience life. Everything happens for a reason, and it'll all work out in the end, I promise

7. Be Bold

Don't be afraid to stand out from the crowd. Don't be so worried about who's judging you, or where exactly you fit in. It's not your responsibility to live the life that everyone else wants for you. You do you. Be bold, be brave and be you

8. Do More of What You Love..

.. and less of what you don't. Just because you're friends like doing one thing, doesn't mean that you will too. Stay true to yourself. Don't lose who you are. Do more of what makes you happy. Whether it's running or sketching or playing music, immerse yourself in it. Enjoy every moment

2016, you have been beautiful, but I'm ready for all the challenges 2017 has to bring. Here's to another year of learning, living and loving,

Until 2017,

The "Sadhbhers" Evolution

Oh, how the time flies! I set up "Sadhbhers" a few years ago as a platform to showcase, develop and document my style. As the year comes to an end, I love looking back on old photos and old memories, as I mentioned in an earlier post, The Beginning's End - so today I've decided to put together a collection of pictures from each of my outfit posts since I first began my "Sadhbhers" adventure. I've also left some clickable links to my favourite/similar below

Autumn/Winter 2016

Obviously my most recent outfits are still my current go-to's - I even wore my favourite floral dress on Christmas Eve! I'm also a major fan of woolen knits at the moment. H&M currently stock some of my faves. And of course, what would life be without a good pair of black jeans? Shop these looks and similar below

These outfits are also recents - you can catch them under the fashion tab of my blog. I've been experimenting with lots of different trends over the past few months - from military chic to metallics, I've tried them all! Shop my look and similar below

Summer 2016

The Summer of 2016 sought fresh, crisp colours. Although some of my outfits were overly optimistic with regards to the weather, many focused on keeping warm and season appropriate. White jeans were a go to, and a blazer was never far from reach

Summer was also full of cute bardots and colour popping heels. I adored the off the shoulder trend this Summer. Sunglasses were a go-to (despite the clear absence of any sunshine at all), and cute swimwear was a must

Spring 2016

Spring for me was all about staying fit and healthy. During my leaving cert, I really learnt the importance of looking after my body and mind, so a lot of my Instagram and blog posts featured not only study tips, but also updates on workouts and essentials

2015 & 2014

2015 featured many pieces that are still part of my wardrobe.. And many that are not, but I guess that's the thing about fashion - it is always changing. Style, however, is something that you acquire over time. As time passes by, I'd like to think that each day I'm one step closer to finding who I am, and a style expresses my personality

Until next time,

The Beginning's End

There is nothing I love more than Christmas, and welcoming the New Year. For me, the New Year is all about making new memories, meeting new people and experiencing new things. 2016 has been a bit of a whirlwind, full of challenges, ups and downs, and everything in between, but I guess that's what made it so perfect

For those of you that have been following me for a while, I guess you've probably already noticed the things that have changed in my life. From my sense of style to my outlook on life, nothing is as it used to be. It's pretty beautiful to have the opportunity to look back on life through my both my blog and all the memories I've made this year. I'll be sharing more of these later in the week

2016 was definitely a year of losing myself and finding myself again. It's hard to think that six months ago I had just finished my leaving cert, and was feeling as lost and confused as ever, awaiting the CAO offers in August, even though I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do. Although I'm still as indecisive as ever, I'd like to think that part of me finally knows what I want in life, and what's most important to me

I'd like to think that this outfit is inspired by an oh-so more mature Sadhbhers. I adore this casual look. While many people tend not to trust their parents the pull pieces for their wardrobe, my Mom picked out this coat and knit combo, and of course the necklace I'm wearing is one of her hand-me-downs. You can catch clickable links to some of the pieces I'm wearing and some similar faves below:

Until next time,

Christmas Makeup Must-Haves

Christmas is just about knocking on our door, and while we’re all spending too much time stressing over what we’re going to wear and how we’re going to style our favourite Winter trends, it seems as though many of us have forgotten that there is more than one way to accessorize an outfit. While sparkly clutches and too-high heels are often perfect finishing touches, an outfit never truly seems complete without adding a touch of eye shadow or even a bold Winter lip. The task of choosing the perfect Winter products can be a struggle at times, so I’ve put together some of my Winter makeup must haves to help you add a finishing touch to your favourite winter look.

Face

While highlighting has always played a major role in our daily makeup routines, this season has seen the trend explode as we all begin to strive for radiant, fresh skin. For those of you that are only beginning to dip your feet in the increasingly popular trend, a more affordable product might suit you better. The Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette can be regarded as one of the best budget highlighter buys of all time. With four shades and a brush priced at €12.49 you simply can’t go wrong! However if you’ve been in the highlighting game for a while then maybe it’s time to up your level by trying the cult product BECCA’s Shimmering Skin Perfector pressed in Champagne Pop. This apricot-gold highlighter is the must have highlighting product of all time with a hue that fits perfectly into any Christmas makeup regime

Eyes

Christmas is the perfect time to experiment with different eye makeup looks. From simple to sparkly makeup looks, anything and everything works at Christmas time. MAC’s Warm Neutral palette is my go-to for daily Christmas looks. Priced at €59.50 (Brown Thomas), this palette is an investment piece. If you’re not quite feeling ready to commit, the Maybelline “The Nudes” Palette (€14.99) has the perfect neutral shades – and for a fraction of the cost, valued at €13. Although keeping it neutral and fresh faced is very on trend this season, there’s no denying that Christmas simply would not be complete without a sparkly eye makeup look. Urban Decay’s Moondust Shadows (€40) are probably the most pigmented on the market, but if you’re looking for the extra “wow-factor” MAC’s Glitter is a Christmas essential, and with Ben Nye Glue it’s sure the last all night. This Christmas I’m obsessing over all things that sparkle, so adding sparkle to the eyes seems like the perfect way to pull your go-to Christmas look together.

Lips

Would it really be Christmas without a statement red lip? Although Kylie Jenner has well and truly sparked the matte lipstick trend, Christmas sees the end of this era as we await the new year. Shimmery lipsticks and lipglosses are my Christmas go-to. I’m a firm believer that every makeup bag should contain a staple red lip. I’m currently lusting over all things NARS, in particular the Audacious Lipstick (€30) in the shade Carmen. Christmas is a time for bold lips, so heighten the drama with your favourite gloss. NYX Butter Glosses (€7) never disappoint, but if you’re looking for a go-to Christmas shade and a high colour payoff, Bobbi Brown’s Scarlet Lipgloss (€24) is one gloss that you’re makeup bag cannot live without

Ain't No Sunshine

Another day, another outfit. I can't believe that Christmas is nearly upon us, and I really don't want to believe that my end of semester exams begin in just over a week. Where has the time gone? Comfort is key when you're stressed out, so I'm keeping everything casual over the next few weeks, with over-sized knits making an appearance on a daily basis

Is there anything more stressful in this world than last minute cramming? Okay, well maybe there is, but being in my first year of college there seems to be a lot of pressure to perform, and it feels almost as though I've been thrown in the deep end. Nonetheless, I am an "adult" now, so I'm sure it'll all work out.

In the meantime, I've been trying to balance work with play. I'm not going to lie, it is difficult, but it's so important to take a break from life sometimes, so on Wednesday afternoon I took some time out to shoot this look with my fave, Ailbhe Woods of The Red Brunette.

I am forever falling in and out of love with Penneys/Primark. I picked up this jumper in the men's section just last week. I love the cosy, over-sized look. I found the necklace/choker set back in October. I'm a big fan of layering necklaces, so this piece is perfect for me

As per usual, I'm saying a major amen to Zara jeans - these grey ones are one of my fave pairs. To pull the whole look together, I popped on my favourite Stradivarius Winter boots. I picked these up a couple of years ago, and I've been in love with them ever since

'Tis the Season to take it easy, so don't forget to make time for everything but study,
Until next time,
